Who can review your Loan Estimate besides your lender?

Updated 07/26/2026

You have a Loan Estimate in hand and a deadline coming. The person who priced it works for the lender, so you want a second set of eyes. Here are the options, honestly compared.

Your loan officer. They can explain every line, and you should ask. But they priced the loan, so "is this good" is not a question they can answer from your side of the table.

Another lender. Getting competing Loan Estimates is the single most effective move, and it is what the CFPB recommends. Keep in mind what it is: a sales conversation. A competing lender reviews your estimate to win your business, and their feedback arrives shaped by that goal. Useful, not neutral.

A HUD approved housing counselor. Real, legitimate, and low cost or no cost. Counselors are strongest on budgeting, program eligibility, and process questions. Most are not set up to benchmark your specific fees or rate against current market data.

Strangers on the internet. Thousands of borrowers post their Loan Estimates in online forums every month and ask "is this okay?" The answers are sometimes sharp and sometimes wrong, and many come from loan officers hoping you will DM them. You cannot tell which is which.

An independent review. A read of your document by a party with no loan to sell you: no referral fee, no commission on your closing, no reason to shade the answer in either direction. This category barely exists, which is why we built one. The AI reads every line of your Loan Estimate and grades your Section A total and your rate against public federal data.

Common questions

Can the CFPB review my Loan Estimate?

The CFPB publishes an interactive explainer that defines each field, and it takes complaints about lenders. It does not review individual estimates or benchmark your numbers.

Will getting more Loan Estimates hurt my credit?

Mortgage inquiries made within a short shopping window are commonly counted as a single inquiry by scoring models. The window is typically cited as 14 to 45 days depending on the model.

What does an independent review cost?

Ours is a one time $29 report. No account and no subscription, and your document is deleted after delivery.

This page answers the general question. What it cannot answer is where your numbers sit. The AI reads your Loan Estimate line by line and grades your Section A total and your rate against this same public data, priced for your credit, your down payment, and your loan type. One upload, one $29 report, and your document is deleted once it is delivered.
